By the end of the 80s, surf videos were killing the celluloid stars. It was easier and cheaper to shoot on video. Millionaire surf media mogul Michael Tomson lamented the death of the surf movie and he invested considerable money and time to make a high-quality film about the sport. He hired Bill Delaney, who assembled 50 years of surfing footage and interviewed the surf stars of the 80s to produce a sincere tribute to riding waves. Surfers: The Movie features an excellent soundtrack that includes Public Image, Jimi Hendrix, the Tom Tom Club and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
